Beautiful Ka’anapali Beach fronts a luxurious stretch of mid range resorts, mixed with worldly brands such as Marriot, Westin, and Sheraton, and blending in with some local Hawaiian brands that include Royal Lahaina and Ka’anapali Beach Hotel. There are several large oceanfront condo-hotels “condotels” where fee simple condo ownership is available including: The Ka’anapali Ali’i, The Whaler, and my favorite, Honua Kai.

I feel blessed to call Ka’anapali, Maui my home for the last 4 years. My wife and I love taking the two minute trek down from our house to the sandy shores and inviting water that Ka’anapali Beach offers. It is no wonder why Ka’anapali Beach has been named the #1 beach in the world by a number of different reputable publications throughout the years.
Kaanapali Beach Hotel In Lahaina
There are many activities that both locals and tourists can enjoy at Ka’anapali Beach. Many of the locals practice their canoe paddling at Hanaka’o’o Beach Park (canoe beach) which adjoins Ka’anapali Beach on the southern end. Growing up in Maui, I used to love our canoe regattas at this beach and the body surfing in the shorebreak that ensued afterwards.
In addition to fantastic swimming and snorkeling conditions, one can book private or group surf lessons, para-sailing, which affords you a great aerial perspective of the area, sunset boat cruises, and jet skiing a comfortable distance away from shore to keep everyone safe.
I grew up in the small town of Haiku on Maui’s North Shore, but decided to make the move to West Maui in 2010 when I met Megan (my wife) after assisting her parents on their purchase of a home in Ka’anapali that we now live in together.

In the wintertime it is really cool to sit up here because we can see tons of whales spouting and breaching even though our house is about a mile from the ocean.
I have always loved Ka’anapali…my high school friends at Seabury Hall and I used to wake up at the crack of dawn and drive from Upcountry Maui to Ka’anapali Beach just so that we could skimboard the beach in front of the Ka’anapali Ali’i.
We would jump off famously known Black Rock and the backside that faces North Ka’anapali Beach – an awesome place to snorkel and swim. There’s an abundance of tropical coral, fish, and of course, our gentle sea turtles (honu).

After a day’s worth of fun, my friends and I would then enjoy our favorite local food from our classmate’s family restaurant, Hula Grill or Leilani’s. My wife loves the fish and chips at Hula Grill and I am addicted to the ono ceviche that they serve, I usually get a double order and a side of sambal hot chilli paste to accompany it.
On each end, is myself and my wife, Megan, enjoying drinks and pupus with friends Dennis and Terri Panado whom I helped on their purchase of a home in Ka’anapali Hillside last year. The Panados are regulars guests and love Leilani’s on the Beach, which is also located right next door to Hula Grill.
The evening people-watching scene along the boardwalk section of the beach is one of the more humorous and fun ways to spend the night enjoying food and drinks, with the stunning backdrop of the beach and the sun setting between Lanai and Molokai.

In fact, the first un-official date that my wife, Megan, and I ever shared was snorkeling at Black Rock (I was trying to act like I was looking at the fish instead of Megan in her bikini) and then sharing lunch at Hula Grill. Megan and I love going to Ka’anapali Beach whenever we can to swim, surf, stand up paddle board, skimboard, play bocce ball, or enjoy our favorite restaurants and shops at Whaler’s Village.
